Sports Network Subscription Estimates Show Huge Drops - realclearlife.com – May 2, 2018

With the start of the MLB season, the NBA and NHL playoffs, the NFL Draft and The Masters, April should have been a great month for most sports networks.

However, according to Nielsen cable coverage estimates, this month was actually pretty brutal.

There wasn’t a single sports network that saw an increase in estimated coverage from April to May and many of them saw pretty notable losses including ESPN (-500,000 homes), FS1 (-328,000), NBCSN (-544,000), TNT (-495,000), NFL Network (-842,000), and MLB Network (- 664,000).

“These are not out-of-season drops, but drops at a time while those networks have some of their best content,” according to Awful Announcing. “So there are certainly some things to worry about there.”

Every sports network lost subscribers from April to May as per Nielsen's estimates, and many were hit quite hard.

Going to be really interesting to watch. with the UFC would think we might see more 9pm games on FS1 for weeknights now- with no ultimate fighter shows. Saturday's might see more games as well(as opposed to Saturday afternoon).

I really think this is a major win for FS1 quite frankly. I think they'll be able to develop a much more normal sports schedule now quite frankly w/o the UFC. I think there are still a lot of folks who turn on UFC and it's an immediate click off.

but this was really interesting IMO....

I saw that as well from last week. Not sure what is meant by FOX could not sell the UFC. I was glad to see FOX get the WWE. Big upside compared to UFC. Lots of holes for FS1 to fill without the UFC. Not really saying about the live events on Saturday. More so the replays during the week after college hoops season. The PBA will be on tons on Monday's on FS1.
