the other thing is that the NL playoffs are going to get very overshadowned by the AL playoffs again this year....

Turner might get
Yankees/Red Sox
Indians/Astros

while NL would have best case
Cubs/Brewers
Braves/Dodgers

The one thing that will happen is Fox for Friday and Monday will have poor times. You know that a potential Yankees/Red Sox will get prime time status. The Dodgers game will be the 930/10pm start for sure since it's the only west game. Houston/Cleveland probably will get priority over Milwaukee/Cubs or Rockies- especially if it's Rockies who beat the Cubs. Could easily have a schedule on Friday of-
1pm Rockies/Brewers
4pm Indians/Astros
7pm Yankees/Red Sox
10pm Braves/Dodgers

then on Monday it's somewhat determined based on how the series have gone.

As usual you're pointing out the worst case scenarios that almost never happen.

For the AL:
*Yes Red Sox and Yankees would be huge, but first let's see if it happens (I personally hope so). A's would be weak and could also cause the games to air late.
*Indians and Astros won't be big. Just because they are good teams doesn't mean they'll get ratings. They are small market teams.

For the NL:
*Cubs would be huge if they play
*Dodgers are big time
*Braves I think would get solid ratings
*Brewers? Not sure but probably decent ratings

All I was saying in my post was that Fox was fortunate that the NL had TWO game 163 today. Not everything needs to be downplayed. At least wait until the Cubs don't make it and the Yankees do to start with the negativity.

Astros small market team? Houston is only the #8 market in the country. And they're the defending champions. And Cleveland is 19.
For Oakland- the first game that could possibly air late would be game 3. Games 1 and 2 would be in Boston.

Braves/Dodgers won't get good ratings for 2 of the games because it'll be in LA so game start time at 9pm or later. And it could easily be a 3 game sweep.
Milwaukee is 35th best market.
also have to remember 1 game from each series airs on the MLB network. So it's possible- that Fox only gets 4 games in 1st round.

Fox absolutely needs the Cubs to beat Colorado tomorrow- to have really any chance at good ratings in 1st round. a Colorado/Brewers series with #17 market vs #35 market would not be good at all. The NL had great stuff today. ESPN was the big winner.

Again it is kind of useless to debate this stuff until we know who will actually be playing.

It's also really tough to compare national TV ratings, so I'll just look at attendance:

1. Los Angeles (NL)
2. New York (AL)
5. Chicago (NL)
7. Colorado (NL)
8. Houston (AL)
9. Boston (AL)
10. Milwaukee (NL)
12. Atlanta (NL)
21. Cleveland (AL)
27. Oakland (AL)

NL:
1/5/7/10/12= 35
AL:
2/8/9/21/27= 67

Not even close, easily the NL in terms of attendance.

Yes this is not a perfect comparison by any means, especially since some teams like the Cubs or Red Sox have limited space. Still, going purely by attendance the NL is in a better spot. We'll know a lot more when the teams are set.

Yesterday was definitely a win for Fox (and of course, ESPN as well... but they're not hosting past the WC).

yesterday definitely not a win for Fox- as the Cubs lost. Cubs being out would not be good....

looking at the local tv ratings-
https://www.forbes.com/sites/maurybrown ... 6bc9f04c4f

so local tv ratings-
Indians 2
Red Sox 3
Astros 8
Yankees 9
A's 29

Brewers 4
Cubs 7
Braves 16
Rockies 17
Dodgers 26

now Dodgers aren't 26th really- their TV deal just sucks.

The bigger problem is going to be the times. The Red Sox game on Friday night will be in prime time. Odds very good that Cleveland/Houston will be the late afternoon block. Braves/Dodgers will be 10pm. WC/Brewers will be the 1pm game(and may very well be on MLB network). Then on Monday- Red Sox would have prime time yet again.

last years times were 2,5,730, 1030. I'd expect using those times for Friday(except that Turner had 730/1030 dh)
2pm- WC vs Brewers
4pm- Cleveland vs Astros
730pm- WC vs Red Sox
1030pm- Braves vs Dodgers

Turner might even make it 5/8 quite frankly. If Fox is airing a game at 10pm they're not going to have good ratings pretty much no matter what.

so saw times out for first few games-
Thu
Colorado/Cubs @ Brewers 507pm FS1
Braves @ Dodgers 837pm MLB Network
Fri
Indians @ Astros 205pm TBS
Col/Cubs @ Brewers 415pm FS1
A's/Yankees @ Red Sox 732pm TBS
Braves @ Dodgers 937pm FS1
Sat
Indians @ Astros 437pm TBS
A's/Yankees @ Red Sox 815pm TBS
Sun
Brewers @ Colorado/Cubs 437pm MLB
Dodgers @ Braves 807pm FS1

So FS1 gets 2 games in first 4 days in prime time. With 1 of them going up probably the entire time against a possible Yankee/Red Sox game. Other one going up against a Cowboys Sunday night football game.

Definitely not good for Fox with the Cubs bowing out. Now get a pretty unattractive Rockies/Brewers series along with Braves/Dodgers. Especially if Yankees beat Oakland tomorrow and set up a Yankees/Red Sox series that will suck all the oxygen out of MLB.

FS1 gets thru Sunday
Thu
Rockies @ Brewers 507pm
Fri
Rockies @ Brewers 415pm
Braves @ Dodgers 937pm
Sun
Dodgers @ Braves 807pm

meanwhile turner gets
Fri
Indians @ Astros 205pm
A's/Yankees @ Red Sox 732pm
Sat
Indians @ Astros 437pm
A's/Yankees @ Red Sox 815pm

yeah, it's very lopsided, and only could get moreso if the Yankees win tomorrow.
