Still, this is also about NEW fans checking out FS1, downloading FSGO, etc. Cubs fans already did that a couple years ago when they won it all. Nice to have 3 new teams in there (Braves/Brewers/Rockies). New audiences for FS1/FSGO. Pretty sure those teams haven't been on FS1 before (in the playoffs).
We don't care about Fox's bottom line, but rather getting more fans to watch Big East basketball and get familiar with the channel/app.
Personally I am rooting for the Yankees today, because unlike Stever I am not an FS1 hater but rather an MLB lover. Yankees/Red Sox would be great for the sport and would lead to more interest overall. Don't forget, Fox has the rights to the AL every other year.
adoraz wrote:Stever- yes of course Cubs would be better for ratings. But as far as the Big East is concerned, Cubs already won it all while on Fox two years ago during their historic run (remember that?). They wouldn't draw any new unique viewers. 3/4 NL teams are new to FS1 and the 4th team is big time (also they are the WEST coast slot, that's all you can ask for since a Western team obviously needs to win the NL West).
Huge win for the Yankees tonight. Great for MLB and Fox.
This is not an MLB AL vs MLB NL war. That is laughable. MLB is competing with literally every other major sport. NFL, NHL and NBA. This is about keeping attention on MLB, keeping NYC interested (as a Johnnies fan, of course I want that), keeping attention on FS1/TBS/Fox.
If Yankees aren't in the playoffs, their fans won't tune into any of the playoffs aside from maybe a couple games during the World Series. At least now they may tune into the NL rather than shutting baseball out completely and turning to NFL/NHL/NBA. Yankees fans will see ads on TBS for FS1/Fox, and of course the Yankees could move on to the World Series... which is on Fox.
Yankees help everyone. A's would've sucked.
Great win for Fox, TBS and MLB tonight!

Fox isn't quite as bad off as 4 years ago when they got stuck with Toronto and KC as top 2 seeds, but it's definitely not ideal.
AS far as your point about the West team has to be the west coast slot- The Astros won the AL WEST and are playing the FIRST game on Friday.
Tonight only helps Fox in that they now have chance for #1 market in WS. It's not going to help their LDS ratings out at all. For one- how many folks are really going to flip over from Yankees/Red Sox at 930 on Friday to watch Braves/Dodgers? How many? Sunday you know what New York fans are going to be doing on Sunday night? Watching the Cowboys.
