Creighton's schedule so far has been tough- like 10 in NET and 8 in RPI- BUT- has 2 bad teams left in 165 Green Bay and 225 UMKC which will hurt their schedule some. Plus a non d1 school which won't count towards the SOS but still gets noted....

Going into this week had 4 teams in contention
Cre 10 NET/8 RPI
Xav 13 NET/23 RPI
SH 40 NET/69 RPI
Vil 90 NET/28 RPI

Creighton has Green Bay, UMKC, and Oklahoma
Xavier has E Kentucky, Missouri, and Detroit
SH has Rutgers, Sacred Heart, and Maryland
Villanova had Penn, Kansas, and UConn left

I think it's very possible Nova passes Creighton as the toughest schedule.

Creighton has the toughest schedule in the league and top 5 in the country. We're doing our part. Only one ACC pelt to claim, still got the Sooners in Norman, not good but next year look the F out for the Bluejays.

Yep, absolutely. Shows how strong we're all scheduling that I forgot to mention Creighton vs #1 Gonzaga from just a week ago.

Bowl Games on FOX and FS1 Register Year-Over-Year Increases

Oregon’s 7-6 win over Michigan State in the Redbox Bowl on FOX drew a 2.5 metered market rating, according to Nielsen Media Research, a +32% increase over last year’s game (vs. 1.9 for Arizona-Purdue on 12/27/17).

No. 22 Northwestern’s 31-20 victory against No. 17 Utah in the San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl on FS1 pulled a 1.09 metered market rating, a +9% increase from last year’s contest (vs. 1.00 for Washington State-Michigan State on 12/28/17).

Fox is giving up the Big 12 CCG game. According to the article, it is likely the network will fill the spot with college basketball (BE/PAC/B1G). I wonder, would Fox try and push the Gavitt Games into these slots? It would mean moving the games about two weeks later (which would probably be more logistically difficult for the B1G, since they like to start their conference play earlier).

I highly doubt they would try to move the Gavitt games. Not as long as the Big Ten is doing 20 games....

So, $20 million for the Big 12 Title Game is too much, unless it's Oklahoma vs Texas is how I read it.

It's sort of mind boggling to me that a network could justify that kind of money for a single game.

There can be a lot to infer from this decision. On one hand, it could be seen as the ice breaking beneath the Big 12 - as networks are anticipating the league won't be in its current form in a few years. On another hand, it could just be what the story read - that Fox simply didn't have the space to show it against the SEC to justify its high costs. Often times, the truth lies somewhere in between. I think Fox viewed it as an unnecessary cost, and was quite content holding the B1G Championship annually and the PAC Championship semi-annually, complemented from the basketball inventory they already own.

Conversely, ESPN can intentionally low-ball the offer, since the Big 12 cannot go to the open market yet, if they know no other network will spend $20 million on a single game. It will be hard for any network to justify spending that much for a single game, especially since they would not have any Big 12 content to show. Or, ESPN can simply give the Big 12 its $20 million, stash the game in its inventory, waiting for the ideal Texas/Oklahoma Championship game is played, then it would do better against an SEC Championship. However, that is a pretty big gamble, despite the finishes by both Texas and Oklahoma last year.

Ultimately, despite the high values provided by Texas/Oklahoma (and what they provide to the rest of the Big 12), this still shows a lack of additional content that the Big 12 can provide to networks. With only ten teams, and just two of them capable of moving the needle, there is a lot of unwanted content that justified to command the high payouts of the Big 12 members. Could this be some smoke with regards to the next realignment cycle? Possibly. Does it have nothing to do with how content will be valued for conferences in a few years? Absolutely not. Will be interesting for sure to see where it goes.

Fox I'm sure would have an opt out clause if a team like Texas left. I think this is just that the game isn't worth $20 million.
