Marquette Review 2024

Good season for Marquette but why did it have to end like THAT?! Anyway, let’s review

OUT
*Tyler Kolek (going pro)
*Oso Ighodaro (going pro)

BACK
*Stevie Mitchell
*Kam Jones
*Sean Jones
*Chase Ross
*David Joplin
*Ben Gold
*Zaide Lowery
*Tre Norman

IN
*Damarius Owens
*Royce Parham

My 0.02
Another good year for the Golden Eagles! Could’ve been better of course and injuries to guys like Kolek and Jones played roles in that. But they finally made it back to the Sweet 16 after having not been there in over a decade. But man! That loss to NC State was very disheartening. They thought they had a free pass to the Elite 8 but nope. There are no free passes to anything in the NCAA Tournament. Anyway, if Marquette can keep Kolek, Oso, both of the Jones’, Joplin and Ross. This team should be back and better than ever. They’ll definitely have a chip on their shoulder after the way this season ended.
UPDATE: Tyler and Oso have decided to forgo their remaining collegiate eligibility and go pro. Big losses for Marquette! Better find some guys in the portal

Both Oso and Tyler have the 5th year Covid option available. Oso has already said he is most likely going to move on. He already graduated in 3 years and is getting his masters. Think he just wants to get on in life. Inside word is that Tyler is going as well. Both were honored on Senior night earlier this month. Could they change their minds? Possible, but does not look very likely. Both are in NBA mocks. Kam is likely to stay. Assuming Tyler is gone, PG is an open question. Kam would be the likely starter at PG which would be good for his NBA aspirations. Sean Jones is 8-9 months out on his ACL recovery. The only backup at the start of the season is current frosh Tre Norman who has logged most of his time off the ball so far. Will Shaka go to the portal to shore up the PG slot? Remains to be seen. MU’s frontline will consist of Ben Gold, redshirt frosh Caedin Hamilton, current frosh Al Amadou and incoming frosh Royce Parham. A lot of youth and inexperience there. Going to be a transitional season ahead.

Tyler announced today that he is forgoing his Covid season and will enter the NBA draft. Oso announced the same yesterday. MU now has one roster opening. Feeling is that they will go to the portal for either a big or (and?) a PG. SeanJones is questionable at PG due to the ACL and the 2 post guys are young other than Gold who is more of a stretch 4.

No surprise here. Both were recognized on Senior Day earlier this season and very much gave hints here and there that they were done after the season. So appreciative for the contributions of Tyler and Oso. Wish them well in their pursuits of the NBA.

Right now:

G K. Jones
G S. Mitchell
G C. Ross
F D. Joplin
F B. Gold
BN T. Norman
BN Z. Lowery
BN D. Owens
BN R. Parham
BN A. Amadou
BN C. Hamilton

I wouldn't be surprised if Sean Jones redshirted (I don't think he will be ready until December, but we will see). If they are counting on him returning, that already makes twelve scholarship players. Unless someone enters the portal, not sure we are intending to bring someone in. Shaka has proven that player/program development comes from within, and only really hit the portal in his first season (Kolek, O-Max, Morsell, Kuath). I'd still be worried about a lack of rebounding right now, as well as Kam being the full-time point (while he looked strong in the games without Tyler, I would worry that would limit his scoring opportunties, and he'd be our top scorer next year).

Shaka's point guard just entered the portal, Seth Tremble. North Carolina transfer from outside of Milwaukee, these this don't happen by accident.

Kam Jones announces he is returning to MU. Huge news. Was being mocked in a few drafts.

No one should mock Kam Jones :D I thought at times last year he was Marquette's best player. Good player to build on for next year!

that's fun.

At least Marquette won't have to worry about guarding Edey any longer.

MU yesterday signed 2024 shot blocking big, Joshua Clark 7’0” from Sugarland, TX. Clark will redshirt as a frosh.
