um, It was a Monday Night going up against MNF. Playing a dog team. What would you expect?

At least the Chicago/Marquette game had 2 bigger cities, and 1.5 hours of that was not up against MNF.

Stever actually makes a good point. If u look at other ratings for Creighton games this year, they are usually on par with other Big East teams.

It was stupid of us to put the game against the NFL. Should have just not aired it at all and ran static on FS1 instead.


On the ratings though, the counting method is so whacky for Neilson ratings. There are like 20,000 homes in the nation that count (out of over 100 million potential viewers), and each viewer is worth like 5k viewers, and each region has a certain number of neilson families. So if you go to Omaha and it happens that 10 of the neilson families out of the 50 or so in Nebraska are Creighton fans, then they are assumed to have at least 60K viewers for every game. But if it happens that the little black boxes went to some Nebraska fans, then it can switch and Nebraska looks like it is drawing the numbers.

So all a 17K rating means is that 3 people out of the 20k neilson families watched the event (or logged that they watched the event). If 15 people with boxes had watched then it would have been considered a hit.

Now back in the day of limited selection and no internet streaming this method was passable. But in today's world with so many viewing options and Netflix and all that it seems like such an archaic way to count viewers. By this point you would think the cable companies could actually track which stations they are airing.

Stever actually makes a good point. If u look at other ratings for Creighton games this year, they are usually on par with other Big East teams.

As Stever is stating for me, which I'm not just talking about in the Monday night game is, that many Creighton games are low. A lot on FS2 are really low. Yes, Stever don't tell me. I know Monday's game was on FS1. Talking about in general.
FS2 games for Butler are always really high. Might be in who has FS2.

a great point on FS2. It's a lot less generally carried than FS1- and wouldn't be surprised if there's pockets where there is a lot heavier coverage than other parts of the conference area. So Butler may have a lot of folks in the Indy area that get FS2 while Creighton's Omaha/Nebraska area may not be covered as much by FS2.

Steve Lavin is an outstanding commentator for FS1 during Big East broadcasts. He brings terrific insight and personality to the pregame/halftime shows. I'm glad that his basketball knowledge and experience is still paying off for the conference and Fox.

A certain program, that's a Big East expansion candidate which has also struggled the past two seasons, would be wise to look at him in the offseason. He could help elevate a program in need of a spark.
